Week 6 will end with three matches on Sunday. Promoted side Hoboken F.C. 1912 will travel to Capelli Sports Complex to verse the professional amateur team Cedar Stars Academy. NY Greek Americans will host NY Athletic Club at the Metropolitan Oval before Doxa S.C. and Zum Schneider F.C. 03’s fierce bottom of the table clash.

Promoted side Hoboken look up to the Stars

The lone promoted club of the season Hoboken F.C. 1912 will face powerclub Cedar Stars Academy on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. away from home at Capelli Sports Complex in New Jersey.

Hoboken started their career back in the top flight with two wins versus bottom half clubs Central Park Rangers Whites, Zum Schneider F.C. 03 and a tie with NY Athletic Club. But when it came to versing teams from the upper half of the table they lost their last two matches, falling to Shamrocks, 3-1, and NY Pancyprian Freedoms, 4-1, respectively.

Meanwhile title favorites Cedar Stars is as expected undefeated in five league matches and four cup games.

Hoboken head coach Marco Chung acknowledges how talented the Stars are but expressed that there’s a possibility for them to win if they truly want to.

“If we win the game, it's because we wanted it more--that's all,” Chung said.

He previously stated: “There is no doubt that they are a good team. They have a great team and players but at the same time it's a soccer game of 11 versus 11. We are going to play that way we know how.”

Hoboken is notably in fifth spot in their first season back in the top flight. The club’s top scorer of the season so far is Cory Chaplin, who netted four times. Former Monmouth University player Colin Stripling sits one goal behind Chaplin alongside Jeremy Witherspoon.

As for CSA, they own the top two scorers: Bledi Bardic and Christopher Katona, who are tied with 11 goals in five matches. The club also has the assist leader in their roster as Matthew Nigro racked a league best of five goal-passes.

NY Greeks and NY Athletic meet at the Met Oval

NY Greek Americans will host NY Athletic Club at the Metropolitan Oval at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Despite losing their last game to NY Pancyprian Freedoms, 3-0, in the Amateur Cup on Wednesday, NY Athletic is on a four-game unbeaten run in the CSL.

“We've had a string of solid performances in the league,” NYAC topscorer Jake Mann said in a pre-game interview, “but we all recognize there's a lot more work to do to be where we want, so we'll definitely look to keep building.

“The defense has been solid, we just need to find the net a bit more. But credit to defending as a team, in this league points can be hard to come by, every game is a battle, so having that foundation out of the back keeps us competitive in every match.”

The Greeks only lost one game in five matches in all competitions thus far, bowing down to the Freedoms 3-2 in the last round. Mann admits how good of team NYGA is and shared how pumped up he gets before playing them.

“The Greeks are always a good squad, they'll grind and will be organized, but personally I love playing them, especially at Met Oval,” he said.

“It's a fixture we're looking forward to as a team because it's a challenge that will help benchmark what we need to improve upon moving forward. It's also an important match because of the potential to jump up in the table.”

NY Greeks defeated NYAC by just one goal in their two league outings last season.

Doxa is winless and scoreless in their last two matches, losing to NY Pancyprians 4-0 and drawing with NY Athletic Club 0-0. Meanwhile Zum won just two of their last seven matches.

Last time the two clubs met in the league Zum got the best out of the Greek Club 2-0.
