It was only the first round of the Fricker Cup for the CSL clubs but it surely wasn’t a quiet one. NY Greek Americans rolled past NY Pancyprian Freedoms, 3-0, in the Greek-Cypriot Derby. And in the other Fricker Cup fixture, Lansdowne Yonkers F.C. outlasted NY Athletic Club, 4-3, in penalty kicks after a 3-3 draw, thanks to Dennis Aaron winning penalty kick in his debut for the club.
NY Greeks eliminate an in-form Pancyprians side out of Fricker Cup opener 3-0
NY Pancyprian Freedoms entered their Fricker Cup game versus NY Greek Americans undefeated in nine outings while outscoring their opponents 31-4, which includes a 3-2 win over NY Greeks themselves.
NY Greeks striker Charlie Ledula was downhearted after the 3-2 loss to his ex-club NY Pancyprians two weeks ago and wanted to show that his side is better than the way they performed in that game.
“The game against them last time was disappointing because we know we are better but we knew what we had to improve on and what we had to do and we got a positive result out of that,” Ledula said.

NY Greeks notched an avenging win over the Freedoms, blanking them, 3-0, away from home at Mitchell Stadium on Tuesday night.
“I would say wanting to prove a point to ourselves and showing how good we are [gave us the win], Ledua added.
Conor Hunter netted all of the Greeks’ goals. Ledula assisted all of Hunter’s goals.
For the first two goals, Ledula penetrated in NY Pancyprians’ defensive third before pushing a pass to Hunter, who stayed cool and composed to find the net.
For the third goal, Hunter missed his initial shot from Ledula’s pass but beamed the rebound home.
“Chemistry with him [Conor] is awesome,” Ledula said about assisting all of Hunter’s three goals.
“He was always there to give me that option. As much as I love scoring goals I love seeing my teammates on the scoresheet too. I feel like the chemistry with the whole team is awesome but it's just a matter of keeping that consistency which I believe we are more than capable of doing.”
